Insufficient academic merit

Verification ex post

The ISU Bocconi Scholarship is always awarded on the basis that the student is deserving.

The national legislative dictate of reference to which the Lombardy Region also refers defines as eligible for the Right to University Education "students in need and DESERVING".

In the first year of an academic career, the merit cannot be verified by universities before the start, before attending courses and passing the exams, but only afterwards, as required by Italian law.

For this reason, in August the performance of eligible students during the first year of the course is verified.

Specifically, the benefit awarded to 1st year students (and only for them) eligible for the ISU Bocconi Scholarship a.y. 2023-24, recipients and non-recipients, will be confirmed or revoked ex post (August 2024) subject to the achievement of the merit requirement outlined below:

  • 44 credits (CFU) by August 10, 2024 for students of Bachelor programs and Integrated Master of arts in Law;
  • 39 credits (CFU) by August 10, 2024 for students of Master of Science programs.

Any changes in the number of credits, which may derive from exceptional measures, will be communicated through the publication on the website.

It is specified that for 1st year students, in addition to the credits actually earned it is NOT possible to use Bonus credits.

Students with anomalies with the exams registration within September 12, 2024 shall contact the Academic Services via you@b agenda.

Revocation of benefit and consequences

The number of credits earned will be verified by the Fees, Funding and Housing Office and in the event that these credits do not comply with the above, the eligibility for the ISU Bocconi Scholarship will be revoked for the academic year 2023-2024

By September 2023, the Fees, Funding and Housing Office will send the notice of revocation of the benefit to all students of 1st year 2023-2024 who have not obtained the minimum credits required for the first year by August 10, 2024.

a) Return of the amounts received as scholarship and services used

Revocation of the benefit involves the revocation of the cash stipend and of the services used for the academic year 2023-2024.

The revoked eligible student, both recipients and non-recipients, must:

  • return the 1st installment of the scholarship received for the academic year 2023-2024 and will not receive the disbursement of the second installment, if eligible recipients;
  • return the amount received for free meals;
  • return any supplements for international mobility and / or internships received.

An exception is made for students who will be able to achieve the number of credits defined above by November 30, 2024, who will not receive the amount of the 2nd installment and will not be required to return the amounts received in the academic year 2023-2024, if eligible recipients.

Return of the amounts listed above cannot in any way be questioned or postponed, as the revocations are in fact verified by the Lombardy Region, the institution providing the ISU Scholarship for the Right to University Education.

By December 2024, after the Office has verified the number of credits earned by November 30, 2024, it will notify the students who incurred in the revocation, the details of the amounts to be returned to the University.

The student will normally have to return the amounts within one month from the date of the communication or in any case in agreement with the Fees, Funding and Housing Office.

Failure to return the amounts due within the communicated deadline will result in the suspension from all academic and administrative activities until the receipt proving payment is presented.

b) Payment of academic tuition and fees

The revocation also entails the loss of the total exemption from the payment of academic tuition fees for the academic year 2023-2024 that Bocconi University had awarded on the basis of the eligibility for the ISU Bocconi Scholarship for the Right to University Education.

The revoked student will have to pay the academic tuition fees of the academic year 2023-2024 in their entire amount, based on the university fees target (ordinary or subsidized) applicable to the student for the academic year 2023-2024.

In detail, following an assessment of the existence of a real situation of economic need, the fees due for the academic year 2023-2024 may be reduced as specified below:

  • assignment of the first relief target for students of Bachelor of Science or Integrated Master of Arts in Law. It is specified that the first relief target reassigned for the academic year 2023-2024, following the revocation, will also be applied for the subsequent years of the degree program.
  • assignment of a partial exemption from the payment of 60% of the academic tuition fees for the academic year 2023-2024 for students of Master of Science programs. The 60% exemption awarded following revocation will also be applied for the subsequent years of the degree program.

It is specified that the Fees, Funding and Housing Office will define the fees applied for the academic year 2023-2024 based on the documentation submitted by the student through the "Fees relief target application". If the student has not submitted this application in due time and form, the necessary documentation will be requested by the Office.

For this reason, students enrolled in the 1st year of a Bachelor of Science or integrated Master of Arts in Law are required to submit the application for fees relief target application.

Following the revocation of the benefit, the financial situation of the academic year 2023-2024 must be regularized, normally within one month from the date of the notice of revocation of the benefit, or in any case in agreement with the Fees, Funding and Housing Office.

The only exception is for those students who are revoked and who will be able to achieve the number of credits defined above by November 30, 2024 who will retain the total exemption from payment of academic tuition fees for the academic year 2023-2024 and will not have to pay.

For further useful information in case of revocation, consult the FAQ (soon svailable).
