Our Labs

  • Communication and Advertising Prof. Arianna Brioschi, Prof. Stefano Prestini
Just how familiar are you with an advertising campaign? A business may live or die based on its ability to communicate successfully. Through this lab you will understand the most important issues when planning and evaluating marketing communications and executions. We’ll get the chance to meet with some of the best in class in the advertising industry and take a peek at what happens behind the scenes of a communication campaign.

  • Computer Coding Prof. Massimo Ballerini
In recent times, coding has emerged as a primary skill not only for IT specialists, but also for managers, professionals and researchers in a wide spectrum of fields. Learning the basics of programming is therefore a valuable chance to develop a new approach to work and technologies. This lab explores the basics and the logic of programming using Python, one of the most widely used programming languages.

  • Digital Marketing Prof. Deborah Raccagni, Prof. Laura Colm
The lab focuses on a theoretical rather than a technical understanding of e-marketing and the digital environment, adopting a customer journey approach to explore the main practices and exploit tools and techniques that can be used to this purpose.

  • Economics Prof. Daniela Grieco
The quantitative analysis of causal relationships allows sound personal and institutional decisions to be made: What are the economic returns of attending university? Do better-paid public servants perform better? Students will be asked to perform empirical research on a social or economic issue of their interest and present their findings to a senior research analyst.

  • Entrepreneurship Prof. Irene Dagnino, Prof. Sandeep Devanatha Pillai
How can a business idea be generated and evaluated? How can one go about testing the validity of the business by creating a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and how can the arrangements be made for starting up the business? Students will be introduced to tools and methods like Lean Startup, the Business Model Canvas and the Elevator Pitch. They will be asked to generate and present a new business idea to a potential investor or partner (a representative of the business community or an entrepreneur).

  • European Union and its Economic Policies in the Post-Globalization Prof. Stefano Riela, Prof. Paolo Palamiti
Globalization, offshoring and multilateralism used to be the drivers that shaped the world order in the last decades. Recent global crises - such as the pandemic and the war in Ukraine - revealed the critical vulnerabilities of a highly open world economy and of global supply chains and worsen international relations. In this context, the European Union is asked to make the most of its policies such as the European single market, competition policy, trade policy and a modernized industrial policy.
This is an introductory course on EU institutions, decision making and its main economic policies in the framework of the international economy.

  • Finance Prof. Andrea Cerri, Prof. Gimede Gigante, Prof. Marta Zava
How does the modern financial system work? How do new peer-to-peer digital business models fit into it? At the end of the lab, students will be asked to evaluate the sustainability of one of the existing peer-to-peer digital platforms in financial services and present their findings to a representative of the financial community.

  • Game Theory Prof. Sara Negrelli, Prof. Monica Bonacina
Doing business is like playing chess. In order to beat the competition in your industry you have to foresee what other companies will do and make your move accordingly. In this lab students will learn how an optimal choice can be made, in particular for a business organization, while taking into consideration a variety of possible decisions by partners and competitors. At the end on the week students will be asked to put themselves in the shoes of a CEO facing an important dilemma and present their conclusions to a senior representative of the Italian business community.

  • Global Law of Business and New Technologies offered by the School of Law
Emerging technologies can lead to fundamental discoveries for the business world and beyond, presenting challenges for both regulators and policymakers. The lab will provide a broad overview of the legal implications of new technologies and how the current legal framework is facing the challenges they present.

  • International Politics Prof. Livio Di Leonardo
In this lab we examine the historical origins, role and functions of international organizations and discuss how international organizations make and enforce decisions, then we apply this knowledge to international trade. We will simulate a negotiation within an international organization: students will be divided in groups and each group will form the diplomatic delegation of a country.

  • Luxury and Fashion Prof. Erica Corbellini, Prof. Stefania Saviolo, Prof. Nicola Misani
Fashion is inspiration, creativity and intuition. But it is also organization, strategy and management. The lab provides the tools for understanding the fashion and luxury industries, which are the key players, success factors and trends in the “new normal.” Special emphasis will be placed on Generation Z and Millennials and new trends such as digitalization, sustainability and inclusivity.
Students will be asked to think about the product of the future for a prestigious fashion brand and design the best strategy to communicate it. A manager from the company will evaluate their output.

  • Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Prof. Riccardo Zecchina
Artificial Intelligence is a multidisciplinary science that gives us a greater understanding of the world. It is speeding up new discoveries across all sciences, from helping mitigate the effects of climate change to improving diagnostic capabilities in healthcare. It makes our lives more efficient everyday and it will push humanity further than we ever dreamed of. But you need to master the right tools if you want to control where it leads us and generate true innovation.
This lab will provide you with the skills needed to understand the machine learning tools revolutionizing the social and natural sciences.

  • Data Science Prof. Omiros Papaspiliopoulos, Prof. Pieralberto Guarniero
The laboratory will introduce participants to some fundamental ideas in Data Science with the primary goal to develop and understand sufficiently well some core methodologies in order to apply them to some really cool current applications, ranging from visualizing complex data to understanding criminal networks. The laboratory will start with a lecture dealing on the fundamentals of Data Science and a discussion of the relation between predictive modelling and causal inference.

  • Strategy Prof. Navya Pandit
Why do some companies succeed while others fail? How does strategy contribute to success? What is strategy? How do we identify and describe a firm’s strategy? This course will equip you with the concepts, tools, and skills required to formulate and implement strategy across a range of business contexts — from a single-business firm to a multiproduct, multinational corporation. Our emphasis will be on applying the tools of competitive strategy analysis to real business situations through case studies, examples, and our own experiences.
