In the academic year starting in September, the University will welcome 12 scholars spanning a wide range of disciplines. Come and meet them

Bocconi faculty is still growing. In September, 11 new Assistant Professors and an Associate Professor will join the University.

"The group of scholars arriving at Bocconi in September confirms the University's ability to attract talent from within our fields and select them according to criteria consistent with our scientific goals," says pro-rector for Faculty, Paolo Pinotti. "They are all analytically sound researchers and, in many cases, bring a deep methodological understanding of data and computer sciences even when they are not specialists in that area. Even among the youngest, there are recipients of prestigious international grants and authors of studies already accepted or under review at top international journals. Finally, we see a balanced mix of pure and more applied research, with immediate impacts on society and business."

The Department of Computing Sciences acquires three Assistant.

Giulio Malavolta joins the Department of Computing Sciences as an Assistant Professor. He comes from the Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy (MPI-SP), where he served as an Assistant Professor and Head of the Cryptographic Systems Group. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from Friedrich-Alexander University. His research primarily revolves around the mathematical aspects of asymmetric cryptography. Additionally, he holds a broad interest in exploring the connections between his field and other disciplines, such as computer security, cryptocurrencies, concurrent systems, formal methods, game theory, and quantum computing.

Adam Polak, PhD from Jagiellonian University, is joining the Department of Computing Sciences after working as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics (MPI). Before joining MPI, he spent two years as a Postdoc in the Theory Group at EPFL, under the supervision of Fritz Eisenbrand. In addition, he spent the spring and summer of 2019 at MIT, working with Virginia Vassilevska Williams, and was funded by an Etiuda fellowship from the National Science Centre of Poland. His research interests focus on algorithms and fine-grained complexity.

After completing his PhD in Computer Science at the University of Milano-Bicocca in February 2019, Andrea Tangherloni worked as a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge from 2018 to 2020. Additionally, he served as a visiting worker at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. During this time, his primary focus was on analyzing single-cell sequencing data, where he introduced innovative approaches and strategies for analyzing these datasets, particularly single-cell RNA data. After a stint at the University of Bergamo, he has been working since December 2022 as a Research Fellow at the Bocconi Institute for Data Science and Analytics (BIDSA) and the Department of Computing Sciences at Bocconi, which he now joins as an Assistant Professor.
