Inaugurated in Bocconi the Red Bull Gaming Zone

, by Davide Ripamonti
A new room dedicated to e-sports was opened on February 10th. It will be available to all Bocconi Sport members, but above all to the players of the University's competitive teams

Some trace its origins back to the 70s, even if, with the progress of technology, it really became popular in the following decades. E-sports, short for electronic sports, is a phenomenon in constant and progressive diffusion, with thousands of players all over the world. And with dedicated events that bring together players, enthusiasts and spectators like any self-respecting sporting event, and that offer prize money that sometimes reaches millions. To the point that, also in consideration of the interest they generate, as well as the increasingly professional preparation required of the players, there are those who have already predicted a not-too-distant entry among the Olympic disciplines.

But if the Olympic future is yet to be written, Bocconi Sport has decided to include e-sports in the range of activities offered to its students (but also to teachers and staff), dedicating a special section to it (the authorized games are Gran Turismo 7 - PlayStation, NBA 2k - PlayStation, EA FC 25 (FIFA) - PlayStation, Rocket League - PlayStation and PC, League of Legends - PC). The pride and joy will be the brand new gaming room, set up by Red Bull at the Javotte Residence in via Bocconi 12 and called the Red Bull Gaming Zone, inaugurated on February 12.

The room, which will be accessible only to Bocconi and SDA users who are members of Bocconi Sport and have booked it through a special online procedure, includes 10 stations complete with PCs and 2 stations with PS5s and related streaming and relaxation areas. To better emphasize the sporting nature of this discipline, the new section also includes a competitive team, whose contact person is Andrea Pelegatti, a law student: “First of all, it should be specified that the term ‘e-sports’ is too generic; a vast and varied reality that includes many ‘titles’, different disciplines in which players also tend to specialize, is often identified as a single entity. We, for example, are more competitive in games like Fc and League of Legends”. The Bocconi team, which is part of the newly formed Section, currently consists of about 10 players, but casting is open: “We are looking for new members to join the team,” says Andrea, who in addition to being a player has held managerial roles in e-sports companies and associations, “and therefore we will hold dedicated selections. The new room provided by Red Bull will allow us to train at our best and then compete against opponents in university competitions and other competitions”.
