Welcome to Bocconi

, by Barbara Orlando
For six thousand incoming students, a new chapter in their lives is beginning. There is a full calendar of events for Welcome Days, plus some advice from the Rector and the Deans of the Schools to help the newcomers make the most of their Bocconi experience

Gatherings, networking opportunities, and a chance to meet with the Rector, the School Deans, and the Program Directors, in addition to student associations and support staff. The Bocconi experience for about 6,000 students entering Bachelor, Master and exchange programs begins today to the beat of the Welcome days (plus welcome activities for exchange students) and the start of classes. The Bocconi campus, increasingly sustainable and accessible, is a kaleidoscope of faces and cultures, languages and personal backgrounds that intertwine to create a new story. Coming from around the world - over 80 countries of origin - the new students have passed a highly competitive selection: this year there were almost 23 thousand applications for admission. A third of them were international students, in particular from France, Turkey, Germany, China, India and the USA.

"To all of you, my warmest welcome! I urge you to seize this opportunity as university students – and as students at Bocconi – to learn about the complexity of the world," counsels Gianmario Verona, Rector of the University. Bachelor of Science students will meet him today and tomorrow August 30, Law students on September 5 and Master of Science on September 6 along with Alberto Calcagno, Bocconi alumnus and CEO of Fastweb. "In the coming years we will help you build a method of analysis, to break down reality, study its problems and identify innovative solutions. In this era of complexity, problem framing comes before problem solving. Development of critical thinking, a multidisciplinary approach, and the ability to analyze data will characterize your course of study and will be your toolbox for the future. Put it to good use."
