Three tips from Antonella Caru' to make the most of your Bocconi experience

, by Barbara Orlando
In addition to acquiring knowledge and skills, it is important to develop critical thinking, participate in extracurricular activities and become active members of the Bocconi community: recommendations from the Dean of the Graduate School

CRITICAL THINKING
You have chosen to attend a Master of Science to obtain knowledge and skills that will be indispensable when you enter the professional world. But that may not be enough if you have not also developed critical thinking, which allows you to evaluate the complexity and uncertainties that will accompany us in the coming years. Be curious and be wary of opinions that, although dominant, may be unfounded. Never tire of asking questions of others and yourself in the classroom when you study, and when you work in groups with your classmates. That is how to make a difference in the activities you are involved in!

AS OF TODAY YOU ARE BOCCONIANS: BE PROUD
By joining Bocconi you become part of a unique Community. Cultivate relationships with your companions, in a spirit of competitive, constructive collaboration, and reach out to help those who may encounter difficulties along the way. Over the next couple of years, learn about the Alumni community to understand how it works and the added value it can give you. And find out what you can give to it and the other members who are part of it. Generations of students refer to our university as Mamma Bocconi, recognizing the attention and care it reserves for its students, who will remain Bocconians as long as they live. That means belonging to our Community, which embodies the values for which Bocconi stands: inclusion, merit, freedom of thought. Be proud of it.

NOT JUST LESSONS
The university experience is made up of much more than study alone. Preparing for life as citizens and professionals involves undertaking a variety of activities: volunteer work, student associations, cultural activities, and sports. Along the way you can participate in conferences and seminars, concerts and many other opportunities that the university and its partners have designed for you, like the Bocconi art gallery. You will develop leadership and teamwork skills (just think of working for a year to stage the Bocconi musical, for example), discover the meaning of solidarity, and broaden your mind by going beyond simply viewing a work of contemporary art or listening to a piece of music. Take advantage of every opportunity, you will not regret it.
