The UN Development Program Annual Report to Be Presented at Bocconi

, by Davide Ripamonti
The issue of global public goods will be discussed on 7 November, with Pedro Conceicao, Francesco Billari and Andrea Sironi in attendance

In an increasingly fragmented and complex world, ensuring the provision of public goods and services is critical to addressing growing inequalities. The United Nations Development Program's (UNDP) Human Development Report 2023/24 underscores the need to build stronger institutions to improve the provision of global public goods, despite difficulties and changes, setting it as a key priority for the future. To discuss this sensitive issue, the meeting ‘Breaking the Gridlock: Reimagining Cooperation in a Polarized World - Presentation of the 2023/24 Human Development Report’, organized by Bocconi University, Assicurazioni Generali and UNDP, in the presence of, among others, Pedro Conceicao (Director of the Human Development Report Office of the United Nations), Bocconi Rector Francesco Billari, and Bocconi President and Chairman of Assicurazioni Generali, Andrea Sironi.

Erika Deserranno, Assistant Professor of Economics, LEAP Bocconi: "To foster sustainable development and improve the lives of marginalized communities, we must re-imagine international cooperation and develop interventions able to navigate global challenges like climate change, conflict, and growing inequalities which are shaping a new world and setting new priorities. The most vulnerable communities are at risk to be left behind, hence we must find innovative solutions to navigate this complex landscape  - such digitalization - ensuring that the most vulnerable are not excluded from access to essential public goods and services".

Luca Privinzano, Associate Director of Research, LEAP Bocconi: "In an increasingly complex world, the need of evidence-based policies is critical to deliver efficient and effective development interventions, reaching the most remote and underserved communities with the best possible solutions within resource constraints. Now more than ever, it is necessary to promote an ongoing and meaningful dialogue between academia and policy institutions to shape an innovative international cooperation able to deal with the challenges of a fragmented world. LEAP and Bocconi are deeply committed to these efforts, and we are honoured and grateful to UNDP and Generali for collaborating on such an important conversation.
