Shaping the Future of Competition and Economic Policy
On 15-16 November, Bocconi will host ACE 2024, the Association of Competition Economics’ annual conference. The conference will be an occasion for discussing the challenges facing competition policy in the context of technological advances, shifting market dynamics, and the evolving role of regulatory bodies worldwide. Chiara Fumagalli of Bocconi’s Department of Economics has taken a leading role among the organizers of this conference, as a member of the ACE Steering Committee.
ACE 2024 will tackle questions at the heart of modern economic governance. In a world where digital platforms and artificial intelligence reshape industries, the conference’s sessions on Digital Regulation and Antitrust and Generative AI will explore how policymakers and economists can adapt. Experts and academics will lead discussions on whether current regulatory frameworks can keep pace with rapid technological change or require a fundamental rethink.
The conference will examine recent case studies and theoretical advancements across mergers, state aid, and antitrust strategies from different nations, as well as the European Union’s involvement in market consolidation, discussing how regional nuances affect the application and impact of competition laws. In the final plenary session, experts will focus on how economic theory and empirical evidence drive today’s antitrust decisions.
