Presenting the PhD School
If you successfully pursue one of the PhD School’s programs, your future is secured. The School’s reputation – which, over the years, has grown – supports this, but student placement data most importantly proves this. In fact, during the 2020-2023 period, 100% of those who completed their PhD at Bocconi have found stable employment: 72.5% in academia and research; 22.5% in national and international institutions including Bank of Italy, Guardia di Finanza, and consulting firms; and the remaining 5% in institutions such as the World Bank, IMF and European Central Bank. For the 2024-2025 academic year, the PhD School – with its ever-increasing number of applications – received a total of 1,043 from applicants, 80% of whom were from international universities, competing for 50 available places.
“The Bocconi PhD School offers a vibrant research environment in which students acquire advanced methodological tools to push the boundaries of knowledge. They collaborate with top faculty to develop their own research and are able to secure senior positions in academia, research institutions or the private sector,” says Andrea Fosfuri, Dean of the PhD School. “More than two-thirds of students who have graduated in the last four years have found work in academia or in research institutions, including Insead, Rotterdam School of Management, Tilburg University, Duke, Warwick, University of Notre Dame, UCL, Harvard Business School, NUS, and Bank of Italy.”
As it does every year, the School will present its programs to prospective students on PhD Day – the virtual event being held on 22 November at 3pm.
