Bocconi at BookCity: Four Events at the Egea Bookstore

, by Andrea Costa
This year, the University is once again one of the venues of a highly anticipated cultural festival

BookCity Milano, running this year from November 11 to 17, has become one of the most awaited cultural events in the city. The initiative, launched in 2012, is promoted by the City of Milan and the BookCity Association, which brings together various cultural operators. The event features a wide range of meetings, book presentations, and other activities (readings, exhibitions, seminars, workshops, interviews and performances) to support literature and culture in general.

This year’s theme is “War and Peace”, chosen by the organizers to encourage reflection on how books and culture can serve to “understand the past and present, but especially to think about the future.”

Bocconi is taking part with its own program – Bocconi4BookCity – developed in collaboration with the Egea publishing house and bookstore. This year's schedule includes four events that will take place in the bookstore's Reading Room in the late afternoon of Thursday, November 14, and Friday, November 15.

During one of these events, scheduled for 6:30 PM on Thursday, November 14, Michael Spence (Distinguished Professor at Bocconi University, Nobel Prize in Economics 2001) will engage in a conversation with Mario Monti (Honorary President IEP@BU) to discuss his book “Permacrisis”, co-authored with Gordon Brown and Mohamed El-Erian. The Italian edition was recently published by Bocconi University Press. In this book, the authors argue that at the heart of today’s permacrisis are inadequate approaches to growth, economic management, and governance – approaches that have flaws but are not beyond repair. “Permacrisis” is thus not only an explanation of where we went wrong but also a provocative and stimulating plan to change the world, prevent crises, and better manage the future, for the benefit of many rather than a few.

Other events in Bocconi4BookCity include: an interview with writer Michele Masneri; a presentation of the book “Genitori alla pari” by Alessandra Minello and Tommaso Nannicini; and Bocconi Professor of Management Paola Dubini discussing what it means to create culture today.
