Three pieces of advice for firstyear students of the Undergraduate School

, by Barbara Orlando
Chiara Fumagalli, School Director: let yourself be curious, take advantage of the services and build your path

BE PROACTIVE AND STAY CURIOUS
Face your university experience at Bocconi with a proactive attitude. Keep your eyes open, let yourself be intrigued by what is happening around you and take advantage of all the opportunities that the University offers. This means, above all, taking in and enjoying the lectures. Attend and interact as much as possible with your professors and classmates to be able to express yourselves, discuss and ask questions. This transforms the lecture into a learning opportunity of mutual enrichment and exchange, instead of just passively going through the motions.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ALL UNIVERSITY SERVICES
Learn about and use the many services offered to students by the University. For example, the Career Services department organizes various initiatives for the student body which are extremely helpful for discovering your individual aptitudes and understanding possible professional trajectories where your talents could be of use. This must be done immediately, even during the first year of the program, to get a better understanding on how to map out your path. There is also the Counseling service, which can help you overcome any hardship or render your study strategy more effective. You can get involved with the various Associations, which represent an extraordinary opportunity to not only find people who share your interests, but also participate more fully in University life.

CARVE OUT YOUR PATH
Make an effort to carve your own path, one that is different from everyone else's. There are no pre-established models to which you must necessarily adhere for the university experience to be worthwhile. Instead, take advantage of your university experience to identify your strengths and leverage them to build a future that both matches your goals and gives you satisfaction.
