Quantum Physics and Statistical Physics for Machine Learning Meet at Bocconi
Three hundred machine learning scholars will be virtually hosted by Bocconi, between Monday 6 and Wednesday 8 July, for the ELLIS Workshop on Quantum and Physics Based Machine Learning, organized by Riccardo Zecchina (Bocconi) and Bert Kappen (Radboud University).
ELLIS (European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems) is a European society of machine learning and artificial intelligence scholars. Through the development of high-quality basic research, ELLIS promotes Europe's competitive role in shaping the process through which machine learning and artificial intelligence are destined to change the world.
Professor Zecchina, a theoretical physicist and Full Professor of Machine Learning at Bocconi, coordinates the quantum and physics based machine learning research program at ELLIS, which studies the application of quantum physics and statistical physics to the development of advanced computational schemes for machine learning. The eleven ELLIS programs range from the fundamental aspects of machine learning to applications in Health, Robotics, Climate Science and Social Sciences.
"Through ELLIS we are developing important collaborations with research centeers all over Europe", comments Prof. Zecchina, "but we are also consolidating relations with other Milanese universities, to make the city a reference center for machine learning and artificial intelligence studies".
