An International Welcome

, by Davide Ripamonti
The students getting ready to start a Master of Science at Bocconi come from over 60 countries. Dean Antonella Caru' offers her advice

They're almost always a gateway to the world of work and, for this very reason, they're extremely important. Bocconi University Master of Science programs are offered on a variety of subjects, ranging from the social sciences to data science, from art to innovation and technology and much more. There has been an increase in applications to these programs by international applicants by as much as 13% (China, Germany and France, in order, are the countries with the most applications) compared to the previous academic year.

"The welcome event is always highly significant, both for students who are about to embark on a new adventure and for us faculty who help them start off the new academic year," says Antonella Carù, Full Professor of Marketing and Dean of the Bocconi Graduate School. She will welcome students, along with Rector Gianmario Verona, at 6:30pm on Tuesday 7 September in the Via Roentgen Aula Magna and in livestreaming.

"I want to congratulate the students who are starting their MSc today because they have passed a rigorous and challenging selection process. They should be proud of this important achievement, but this is also a starting point for a new experience, to be approached with commitment and passion. The best thing about the beginning of this year is that we are coming together on campus, and we hope that this opportunity can continue thanks to the vaccination campaign and the use of Green Passes. In accordance with the rules imposed by the pandemic, we are returning to in-person classes and activities. And it's great to see our campus so lively and engaging again," continues Carù.

"My recommendation to students is to actively participate in university life, in class and in the numerous activities that our university offers: this is the best way to fully experience Bocconi, making the most of its potential for enrichment at a professional and personal level. It is particularly important for MSc students who then enter the job market: in the next two years they will have the opportunity to acquire new knowledge, experiment with its applications, tackle group work and projects on the field and get to know many different companies and institutions that participate in various capacities in Bocconi's activities. All this will allow them to reflect on and be aware of their professional aspirations," continues the Dean of the Graduate School.

"MSc students come from more than 60 countries and this diversity represents an extraordinary opportunity to interact and collaborate in a multicultural context. This is how networks are built as well as a sense of belonging to the Bocconi community, a very important value for the future: our community begins in the classroom and is progressively strengthened until entering the world of work as Alumni."

A Bocconi alumnus, Corrado Passera, founder and CEO of illimity, will speak to MSc students during the welcome event on Tuesday.
