Global and Hybrid, a University for Today's Evolving World

, by Tomaso Eridani
A video produced by CBS highlights how Bocconi has been innovating over the years to be at the forefront of teaching and research in the social sciences

Since its foundation in 1902, Bocconi University has been innovating and disrupting to keep pace with, and be at the lead of, changes in society and the world of business. A new video produced by CBS News, for its 'Innovation and Disruption Leaders' series, highlights how through this innovative spirit Bocconi today is a leading European teaching and research university of international standing in the social sciences.

"Bocconi tries to change the world through production of original knowledge," says Rector Francesco Billari in the video. "And we aim to be increasingly international and attractive to young students and to be an inclusive community. We don't want to live in a void – we want to make a real impact."

The video illustrates how the University aims to forge 'future-proof students' - ready for the upcoming trends in the world of work but who also want to make a positive impact in society. And in research, providing insights on contemporary issues and developments and offering guidance on emerging trends.

Innovation at Bocconi has also been driven by the desire to keep pace with the changes and challenges of today's world – from digital transformation to climate change, evolutions in geopolitics and up to Artificial Intelligence. It continues in fact to develop the fields of its teaching and research – with the introduction of political science and, the most recent, the field of computer and data sciences.

Bocconi's strong belief in the hybridisation of knowledge has also been another driver of innovation with the many different fields of social sciences encouraged to contaminate each other. All set in in a global context, with the University committed to international outreach and cooperation.

The video also features contributions from Catherine De Vries, Dean for International Affairs, Gianmario Verona, professor of Management, Dirk Hovy, Professor at the Department of Computing Sciences, and student Clarice Mullady.
