The Economy and Technology in the Post Pandemic World

, by Tomaso Eridani
Nobel Michael Spence and Rector Gianmario Verona, in the new Story Scanner podcast, discuss the megatrends impacting future economic growth and the digital transformation of our society

The economy, politics, healthcare, work – so many aspects of our society have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. And in the post-pandemic recovery the 'new world' will be interacting with pre-existing forces that were already impacting our society – such as the geopolitical shift in the global economy, climate change, digital transformation, new political forces.

In the new episode of Story Scanner - the podcast based on the stories headlining ViaSarfatti25, the magazine from Bocconi University, we look at some of these megatrends impacting our society, the challenges and opportunities.

Looking at the economy, a multispeed economic recovery is underway. Michael Spence, Nobel Prize in Economics in 2001 and Professor of Economics at Bocconi, gives us his insight into what growth patterns will return, if we will witness a shift to some markedly different set of dynamics in the economy and which sector and industries seem poised for major rapid growth.

Digital transformation, meanwhile, has been reshaping our lives since the end of the 90s but the real impact and potential has only been really understood during the pandemic. Gianmario Verona, Rector of Bocconi University, gives us his outlook on the future impact of technology, how the EU has made digital transformation one of the pillars of the Next Gen EU Fund and how he believes the future is hybrid - with digital technologies complementing traditional analog.
