Davide Serra Named 2024 Alumnus of the Year by the Bocconi Alumni Community
The Bocconi Alumni Community has named Davide Serra the 2024 Alumnus of the Year, recognizing his professional journey and commitment to both the university and society. Serra, who graduated in Business Administration from Bocconi in 1995, is the founder and CEO of Algebris Investments, an asset management company with offices in London, Milan, and other global cities, managing assets worth approximately $26 billion.
“Davide Serra is a Bocconi alumnus who has pursued an international career with skill and determination,” said Silvia Candiani, president of the Bocconi Alumni Community. “He founded a global financial player and is one of the leading experts in financial services, frequently advising central banks and regulators. In addition to being an entrepreneurial leader, his attention to educating younger generations and his international outlook are clear examples of the values our community upholds.”
After graduating, Serra moved to London, where he worked as Executive Director at UBS Warburg, and later as Managing Director at Morgan Stanley, where he led the research team on European and global banks. In 2006, he founded Algebris Investments, a company notable by its long-term investment strategies and its expansion into new sectors such as global credit and the green transition.
Serra has always kept close ties with Bocconi University, actively participating in Alumni initiatives and supporting various charity projects aimed at students and academic research, including the Algebris Chair in Long-Term Investment and Absolute Return. Furthermore, he is involved in humanitarian work through the Hakuna Matata Foundation, which he established in 2010 to help orphaned children in Tanzania.
“This accolade deeply moves me,” commented Serra. “I think back to the volleyball player and Scout Davide, who walked through the doors of Via Ferdinando Bocconi for the first time, fully aware of the precious opportunity he had been given. Bocconi’s focus on education and merit allows all students to give their best, thus helping to shape future generations of leaders. Even today, opportunity and merit remain key values that the university instills, which I strive to carry forward in my daily role as an entrepreneur. With this Alumnus of the Year award, I feel even more responsible for doing so every day in concrete ways.”
The nomination of Davide Serra bears testimony not only to his professional success but also to his longstanding contribution to the Bocconi community and the development of future generations of leaders.
The award ceremony will take place on October 18.
