
The Dean of the Faculty, Paolo Pinotti, officially welcomed the faculty members, from various disciplines, joining Bocconi this year during a meeting specifically dedicated to them held Sept. 3. ”I am pleased to announce the arrival of many young talents who enrich our faculty with a wealth of experience gained at some of the most prestigious universities in the world and who, in many cases, have garnered important recognitions such as funding and research awards,” said Paolo Pinotti. “Their energy, creativity and knowledge reinforces our commitment to teaching and research, countering – and possibly reversing – the brain drain that has too often been a feature of research in Italy, thus contributing to the scientific and cultural progress of our country.”

Pietro Andrea Bianchi Fedrigoni will join the Department of Accounting as an Associate Professor. He previously served as an assistant professor at Florida International University, University of South Florida and University of Miami, where he taught both cost and financial accounting. He holds a PhD in Business Administration from IE Business School. His research interests include corporate governance, auditing, and social network analysis, with publications in top accounting journals. He has received numerous awards for his teaching, research, and service to the academic community. Pietro is also Editorial Board Member of leading accounting journals, including The Accounting Review and Contemporary Accounting Research.

Paul Demeré joins the Department of Accounting as Assistant Professor after holding the same position at the University of Georgia, specializing in corporate tax disclosures, tax planning, and the unintended consequences of tax policies. He earned his PhD in Accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and holds CPA licenses in North Carolina and Virginia. His research has been published in leading accounting journals, and he has received awards such as the Best Paper Award at the Review of Accounting Studies Conference in 2022. Paul Demeré is also an active participant in academic conferences and serves as a reviewer for multiple accounting journals.

Ekaterina Neretina will become part of the Department of Accounting as an Assistant Professor. She was previously Assistant Professor of Finance and Business Economics at the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business. She completed her PhD in Finance at Tilburg University and has research interests in corporate finance, political economy of finance, and corporate networks. Her work has been featured in highly respected journals and presented at numerous international conferences. Ekaterina has also received several grants and awards, including a prestigious NWO Research Talent Grant, and is actively involved in teaching and academic service at USC.

Luca Biggio joins the Department of Computing Sciences as an Assistant Professor. He comes from EPFL in Switzerland, where he served as an AI4Science Fellow. He earned his PhD in Machine Learning and AI from ETH Zurich. His research spans machine learning, neural networks, and their applications in various scientific domains, with multiple publications in top conferences like NeurIPS and ICML. Biggio has also been recognized with several awards, including the AI4Science fellowship. He has extensive teaching experience in computational intelligence and deep learning and has supervised numerous student theses. Additionally, Biggio is actively involved in academic service, serving as a reviewer for major machine learning conferences.

Tommaso d'Orsi, PhD in Computer Science from ETH Zurich, is joining the Department of Computing Sciences after working as a Research Fellow at Bocconi and a Visiting Researcher at Google. His research focuses on algorithms, data structures, and stochastic block models. D'Orsi has presented his work at major conferences like NeurIPS, ICML, and FOCS, and has been recognized with the ETH Medal for Outstanding Dissertations. He has also held teaching roles, including as a head teaching assistant for large undergraduate courses, and has supervised several master's theses.

Martino Banchio joins Bocconi University as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics. Banchio received his PhD in Economics at Stanford Graduate School of Business. He holds a BSc and MSc in Mathematics from Università di Torino and an MA in Economics from Collegio Carlo Alberto. His research focuses on artificial intelligence and market design. He has spent the last year working as a Research Scientist at Google Research, and has received several scholarships and awards, including the Stanford HAI Graduate Fellowship. He is joining the Department of Economics as an Assistant Professor.

Edoardo Teso becomes an Assistant Professor at Bocconi’s Department of Economics. He has been an Associate Professor at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, specializing in Political Economy, Organizational Economics, and Development Economics. He completed his PhD at Harvard University and has published in top economics journals. His research covers various topics, including bureaucracies, the political economy of labor markets, and political contributions. He is also affiliated with several research institutions like NBER and CEPR.

Michele Fioretti joins Bocconi University as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics. Previously, he taught at Sciences Po in Paris, where he was an Assistant Professor, and at the London School of Economics as a visiting scholar. He holds a PhD from the University of Southern California and an MPA from the London School of Economics. His research focuses on firms' social and environmental impact, employing methods from empirical industrial organization, international trade, and corporate finance. He has published in leading academic journals and received numerous awards, including the Prix Edmond Malinvaud for the best paper published by a young researcher in France. He is currently a Fellow at the Stigler Center at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Michela Carlana will be a Visiting Associate Professor at the Department of Economics after an experience as Assistant Professor of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School, with affiliations to several research centers including NBER and IZA. She completed her PhD at Bocconi University and her research focuses on education, labor, and gender economics. Michela has published in prestigious journals such as Econometrica and the Quarterly Journal of Economics. She has received significant grants and awards, including an ERC Starting Grant, and is actively involved in seminars, conferences, and policy discussions globally.

Josefina Cenzon will be joining the Department of Finance as an Assistant Professor. She obtained her PhD in Economics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Her research focuses on behavioral macroeconomics, finance, and household finance, with specific interest in credit market experiences and inflation's impact on mortgage choices. Cenzon has received the La Caixa INPhINIT Retaining Fellowship and has presented her work at numerous international conferences. She also has teaching experience at both graduate and undergraduate levels in economics courses.

Martin Kornejew obtained his PhD in Economics at the University of Bonn, with research interests in corporate finance, macroeconomics, and law and finance. Kornejew will be joining the Department of Finance as an Assistant Professor. His work has been published in top journals like the Review of Financial Studies. Kornejew has held research positions at institutions like the World Bank and the Institute for the World Economy and has presented his research at major conferences worldwide. He has also been recognized with awards such as the EFA Doctoral Tutorial Best Paper Award.

Marco Loseto’s research focuses on industrial organization and financial economics, with a job market paper exploring the design of retirement portfolios and their impact on investors' welfare. Loseto will be joining the Department of Finance as an Assistant Professor. He obtained a Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Chicago. Loseto has published in Management Science and has held research assistant roles at the University of Chicago and the Bank of Italy. He has received several prestigious fellowships, including the Stevanovich Fellowship and the Bank of Italy Bonaldo Stringer Scholarship.

Maximilian Beichert will be joining the Department of Marketing as an Assistant Professor. He brings with him prior experience as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at HEC Paris with a Ph.D. in Quantitative Marketing from the University of Mannheim. His research focuses on influencer marketing, social commerce, and user-generated content. Beichert has published in leading journals like the Journal of Marketing and has presented at numerous international conferences. He has received several awards, including the Best Student Paper Award at the WISE Conference (2022) and the Best Paper Award from the Graduate School of Economic and Social Sciences at Mannheim.

Liyang Zhou will be joining the Department of Marketing as an Assistant Professor. She obtained her PhD in Economics at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research focuses on sustainable economics, empirical analysis, and text analysis. She has co-authored several working papers, including topics on environmental standards, political attention to climate change, and the geographic mapping of U.S. counties over time. Zhou has extensive teaching experience at the University of Pittsburgh, where she has taught courses in macroeconomics and microeconomics.

Christopher Turansick joins Bocconi’s Department of Decision Sciences as an Assistant Professor. He holds a PhD in Economics from Georgetown University, where he specialized in Microeconomic Theory and Stochastic Choice. His research has been published in journals like the RAND Journal of Economics and Journal of Economic Theory. He has extensive teaching experience at Georgetown University and has presented his work at various academic conferences.

Maria Carreri is joining the Department of Social and Political Sciences as a Visiting Assistant Professor. Carreri is currently on leave from the University of California Berkeley's Goldman School of Public Policy. Carreri earned her Ph.D. in Political Science from New York University in 2018. Her research focuses on comparative political economy and local politics. Carreri has published in top journals such as the Journal of Politics and Review of Economics and Statistics. Her academic career includes a previous appointment at UC San Diego and a postdoctoral fellowship at Northwestern University. She has been recognized with several awards, including the Susan Clarke Young Scholars Award and the Michael Wallerstein Best Article Award.

Giovanna Invernizzi completed her PhD in Political Science at Columbia University in 2021. Invernizzi is joining as an Assistant Professor at Bocconi, and previously held a position at Duke University. Invernizzi’s research explores political institutions, party organization, and electoral competition, with publications in journals like American Journal of Political Science and Journal of Politics. She has received various grants and fellowships, including the Giancarlo Doria Research Fellowship in Comparative Political Economy.

Laura Muzi becomes Assistant Professor at the Department of Legal Studies after a career as a researcher and lecturer in public law at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”. She holds a PhD in Public Law from Sapienza University of Rome and specializes in administrative law, European Union law, and public finance. Laura has participated in several research projects funded by the European Research Council and has taught various law courses. Her work includes numerous publications in Italian and international journals, focusing on topics like water resource management and administrative procedures.

New Assistant Professor Chiara Graziani is an accomplished academic specializing in law, with a focus on comparative public law. She has held various research positions in Italian universities as part of research projects and has been a visiting scholar in prestigious institutions abroad. She has also taught several courses in English and in Italian and she has published extensively, including articles in high-ranked law journals, dealing with national security, human rights, advanced technology, and related topics.

Davide Paris is an Associate Professor at the Department of Legal Studies with a strong background in public law, comparative constitutional law, and human rights. He earned his PhD in Constitutional Law from the University of Milan and held research and teaching positions at prestigious institutions such as the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg. Davide has an extensive publication record, including contributions to books and journals in both Italian and international contexts. He has also served as Clerk at the Italian Constitutional Court and has been recognized with several awards, including the Alexander von Humboldt Post-doctoral Fellowship.

Distinguished Professor James Gordley is a legal scholar with extensive expertise in comparative law, particularly focusing on civil law traditions. He has previously held academic positions at Tulane University Law School and at the University of California, Berkeley and has a significant body of work, including influential publications on contract law and legal history. His career includes teaching at prestigious institutions, and he has contributed to the development of legal theory through his research, books, and articles.
