Bocconi Leads Rankings on Quality of Research
Bocconi is at the top in terms of scientific production in its areas of research (economics and statistics and law). This is according to the Quality Evaluation of Research for the 2011-2014 period by the National Agency of Evaluation of the Research and University System (ANVUR), presented today.
Publications by its researchers have placed Bocconi first among large universities in the area of economics and statistics and second among small law departments (sizes are assessed based on the number of active faculty members in the research sector).
In addition, Bocconi is first in the economics-law area regarding research contributions by newly recruited or recently promoted faculty members, which is higher compared to the contributions of newly recruited or recently promoted faculty members at other Italian universities. This assessment, explains ANVUR, "shows who has hired the best faculty and, therefore, determines their capacity to recruit personnel and the attractiveness of each university compared to others, in a specific subject area analyzed."
"In recent years," says Bocconi Rector, Gianmario Verona, "we have been committed to a policy to recruit the best young PhDs on the international market and have created an internal incentivization system that rewards quality of research. The results of the ANVUR evaluation have confirmed that we are on the right track."
ANVUR's announcement is not the only sign of research quality at Bocconi. "Next month," says Dean for Research, Marco Ottaviani, "the 10 year anniversary of the European Research Council (ERC) will be celebrated. This organization assigns European grants to basic research based solely on quality of projects. In this case as well, Bocconi is at the top, this time in Europe, of universities that have received the most grants." ERC has rewarded Bocconi's research policies, funding 24 research programs, for a total of €26m.
