With the new academic year a Department of Marketing has been established at Bocconi. It's the first Department of Marketing in an Italian University.

Enrico Valdani has been appointed director of the 31-professor-strong department. "Our discipline was introduced to Italy in 1972 by Luigi Guatri", Valdani said, "and now it receives a substantial acknowledgment, due to its relevance for any organization, be it for or not for profit".

Marketing at Bocconi is taught at the Undergraduate School, with 14 courses; at the Graduate School, with 25 courses, a MSc in Marketing Management and a Master in Marketing & Communication; at the PhD School with four courses at the PhD in Business Administration and Management; at SDA Bocconi School of management, with courses for the MBA and executive master programs, the EMMS (Executive Master in Marketing and Sales) and a large portfolio of open enrolment and custom initiatives for Italian and multinational enterprises.

The research activity is pursued at CERMES, the research center for marketing and services, and at the Marketing Area of SDA Bocconi School of Management. "The results of our research put the Bocconi marketing faculty among the best in Europe", Valdani stated: "In this phase of cyclical and structural change, the importance acknowledged to marketing is growing. If the enterprise goal is to create real value, the orientation to the market and the client is the only viable option".
