Bocconi Among Top 30 Schools Worldwide in Economics and Finance
Bocconi has been placed with the top 30 universities in the world in the 2011 World University Rankings processed by QS, the international network dedicated to education and the professions. In the rankings dedicated to individual subject matters, Bocconi is in fact at 26th place in the world for finance and accounting and 29th place for economics and econometrics.
"These positions are especially positive because they testify to the quality of the work carried out over recent years to increase Bocconi's international visibility," explains Fulvio Ortu, Vice Rector and Dean for International Affairs at Bocconi. "It's particularly satisfying to see that Bocconi places 5th in Europe for finance and accounting and 7th for economics, and that in both cases we are in the absolute first place for continental Europe."
Rankings are processed based on three criteria: academic reputation based on the opinion of scholars all over the world (840 for the economics ranking and 520 for finance and accounting), universities' reputation in companies (based on the opinion of 755 recruiters for the economics ranking and 815 for finance and accounting) and faculty citations (using a sample of 37,760 papers for economics and 8,080 for finance and accounting).
QS expanded their ranking this year to around thirty specific subject categories, while last year Bocconi was placed 48th in the more generic ranking of Social Sciences & Management.
"These rankings have highlighted the areas of excellence of Italian universities recognized at international level," explains Ben Sowter, head of Intelligence unit at QS. "The excellent performance in the social sciences of a private university, dynamic and with a solid global reputation like Bocconi is not surprising."
