Discover historical documents thanks to Artificial Intelligence!
, by Library & Archives
Bocconi Historical Archives opens the door to history by applying AI: thanks to this new project, it is now possible to easily read hand-written texts and perform word searches on the oldest economic documents preserved at Bocconi.
Which documents are readable with AI?
We have selected seventeenth-century mercantile letters that tell the story of trade between the Tuscan Saminiati family and major Italian and European cities in the period between 1627 and 1630.

How do I get access?
The project on the Saminiati Mercantile Correspondence can be accessed on the dedicated portal.

What can I do?
On the portal dedicated to the project you will find the image of the original text alongside its transcription, and you can do word searches by locating words in the original text.

What tool did we use?
We used Transkribus, a platform created in the framework of the European project Horizon 2020, involving the collaboration of a group of European universities.
