Covid-19 Emergency

The health emergency we are facing has undoubtedly deeply affected all our lives, but it has also demonstrated the Bocconi community's capacity for resilience and innovation. Further responsible actions are required from everyone at an individual and collective level.

Bocconi University manages on-campus services and activities in compliance with the regulations and indications of local and national authorities.

The University aims to stay in touch with the entire community, including students, faculty and staff, with regular communications and updates.

Update

25 March 2022

Dear Students,

This is to update you on the latest provisions of the Italian government relating to the management of the pandemic, with specific regard to academic activities (Decree March 24, 2022, n. 24).
On 31 March 2022, the period of official emergency will end, along with the system of colors that until now has indicated region by region the level of infection and the related restrictions.
Here are the main points:

  1. ACCESS TO BOCCONI CAMPUS BUILDINGS

As of 1 May, you will no longer be required to show your green pass.

  1. MASKS
The latest decree requires you to wear a mask indoors until 30 April. As a cautionary measure, and in light of the recent increasing trend of the contagion curve, we urge everyone to continue wearing a mask indoors even after that date, preferably an FFP2 mask.

  1. MANAGEMENT OF POSITIVE CASES
We remind you to always inform the HSE service (hse@unibocconi.it) which will analyze the specific situation and give indications on what actions to take.

We will promptly provide you with updates if there are further changes in the legislation.

Cordially,

Gianmario Verona Rector, Riccardo Taranto Managing Director

14 October 2021 - Teaching activities in person

Dear Students and Faculty

With the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research's request to promote conducting university teaching activities in person and an improvement of the epidemiological context due to increasing vaccination coverage, our community can now move towards a situation of normalcy.

We are pleased to inform you that, following an analysis conducted on the attendance data recorded in class during this initial phase of the first semester, the groups into which classes had been divided (even/odd student ID numbers) can now finally be combined again for all courses.

Therefore, considering that exams will be held next week for the majority of programs, lessons will be able to resume with the attendance of all students for programs with classroom teaching starting on Monday 25 October.

Please remember that, similar to the current situation, lessons will continue to be video recorded to allow anyone unable to attend in person to follow remotely.

At the same time, study areas will also be able to return to being used in their entirety. Support services will be adjusted in order to cope with the growing influx of students on campus, always in compliance with all safety protocols in force, i.e. mandatory masking, hand sanitization and continuous ventilation.

Green Pass checks will also be strengthened in response to the greater number of people on campus.

The above should of course be considered subject to possible variations according to the trend of the epidemiological context or any changes to the current regulatory provisions. In addition, for this same reason and as a precaution, the anti-Covid signs on campus and in study areas will not be removed for the moment.

Sincerely,

Gianmario Verona Rector, Riccardo Taranto Managing Director

20 August 2021 - Academic Year 2021/22 1st semester Health & Safety protocol

Dear Students,

With the first semester of Academic Year 2021-2022 approaching, as already stated in a previous message from the Rector and the Managing Director, the University will mostly resume in-person learning and teaching activities, implementing also a recent set of rules and procedures designed to protect the health of the entire University community in Italy.

In recent months, we have continued the hard work of making our Campus safe and secure and we are doing everything possible to ensure maximum peace of mind for you and your families. Thanks to this hard work, Bocconi University last year was also awarded the Biosafety Trust Certification that is the first certification system created to provide a set of benchmark best practices to minimize the risk of spreading epidemics in public and private meeting places.

Naturally, depending on the national and regional epidemiological situation, the general framework of the rules and procedures could change. There is in fact a system of increasing restrictions and limitations by which color designations are assigned to individual regions by the Italian government.  It starts from "white", which is the lowest level of pandemic danger, to "yellow", "orange", and "red", the highest level of alert. We will promptly inform you about any changes in this respect.

As far as the start of university activities is concerned, the health protocol adopted by Bocconi provides for the following rules, many of which have already been in force since last year, while other ones are the result of experience gained and the most recent indications coming from the national health authorities:

1) COMPULSORY GREEN PASS TO ACCESS THE UNIVERSITY

Following the latest government provisions (law decree of 6 August 2021), the 'Green Pass' (EU Green Pass - EU digital COVID certificate) is expected to become mandatory for students, teachers and university employees, starting from 1 September 2021. Without the exhibition of the Green Pass, the access to the campus facilities will not be allowed and random checks will be made to secure the respect of this norm.

We remind you that the Green Pass is a certificate that officially confirms one of the following situations:

  • You have received a COVID-19 vaccine, even just the first dose. Only vaccines approved by EMA are accepted and recognized.
  • You took a rapid antigen or PCR swab test within the past 48 hours, and it came back negative. The test must be performed by an authorised center.
  • You have recovered from COVID-19 in the past six months and have the relevant medical documentation.

2) FLOWS AND ACCESSES TO CAMPUS

No gatherings are allowed. This rule remains a staple of the Covid prevention campaign. While on Campus, at every movement it will be necessary to maintain interpersonal safety distance (one meter, at least). Accordingly, this means that all classrooms have limited capacity to 50% of all available seats. Specific signs and the security staff will help you identify safe routes and inform you of potentially risky situations. As for the study spaces, since distancing inevitably reduces their capacity, they must be reserved exclusively online in order to avoid queues and gatherings.

3) PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Another fundamental rule: within the Campus (indoor areas) it will be mandatory to wear a face mask and use all the prevention devices made available by the University (e.g. disinfectant gel dispensers for cleaning hands).

4) TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT

Thermo-scanners are positioned at the entrance of every building of the University, with single or multiple scans depending on the access flows, for the detection of body temperature upon entry. Those whose temperature exceeds 37.5 °C degrees will not be let in and a procedure to verify the health of the person in question will be initiated as required by the measures of the Anti-Covid Protocol adopted by the University.

5) SANIFICATION / VENTILATION

We have planned regular sanification interventions in all buildings. In addition, during teaching activities we will proceed to sanitize the classrooms at each change of class. For study spaces, for which there is a daily sanitation, we invite you to sanitize yourself them at the end of each use by using materials from the multipurpose totems specially made available for this purpose.

With regard to the use of air ventilation systems in the premises, the systems are always kept on (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) without any recirculation of air flows, precisely with the aim of removing any suspended particles and prevent their deposit on surfaces. The use of these systems reduces the level of risk, precisely because it dilutes any concentration of particles within the premises. In addition, ventilation is guaranteed in all indoor spaces inhabited by people and can be natural (with the opening of windows) or through mechanical ventilation (when large volumes of air are required).

6) PREVENTION CAMPAIGN THROUGH RAPID ANTIGENIC TESTING

With the aim of preventing Covid outbreaks within our community, from September 1st we will start a free screening campaign by offering quick antigenic swabs for all those who wish to have one.

The goal is to trace and then isolate as quickly as possible both symptomatic and, above all, asymptomatic cases and related close contacts.

  • The campaign will last two/ three weeks and we have a testing capacity of about 300 tests per day, until all available slots are exhausted;
  • Participation in the campaign is on a voluntary basis and only one swab per person will be allowed; any subsequent test can be carried out for a fee at the affiliated facilities;
  • The campaign is open to students, faculty & staff who regularly attend the campus;
  • In case of a positive result to a rapid swab test, PCR molecular testing will be carried out immediately afterwards and we will proceed to communicate results to competent territorial health bodies while simultaneously starting the tracing of close contacts.

A specific communication will follow in the next days with all the information to make a reservation for a rapid antigenic test and view the related documentation.

7) EMERGENCY NUMBER AND MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

If you experience flu symptoms during your stay on the Campus, you should immediately call the phone number +39 025836.2121, which can also be activated through S.O.S. tower positioned in specific outdoor areas on Campus; this way, the tracing and possible isolation procedure can be initiated, in case of confirmed positive result.

For requesting any clarification or notify the University of your state of health, which is above all useful for tracing activities, please write to hse@unibocconi.it

An ambulance will be permanently present on Campus from Monday to Friday from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, while an infirmary is active in via Bocconi 12.

On the yoU@B Agenda, at the Health and Safety widget you can find the procedure for handling suspect and confirmed cases and all other relevant information.

8) ON CAMPUS MEDICAL OFFICE

There is also a permanent medical office on Campus, an outpatient clinic located on the mezzanine floor of the building in Piazza Sraffa 11, open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The medical office has the purpose of mainly addressing the needs of students who are not resident in Milan and/or have difficulty accessing the services of a general practitioner. It should be clarified that this is not an emergency room, but a medical doctor's service that can be used preferably upon reservation, by calling the phone number +39 0203009152 (Organizational office open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm from Monday to Friday). When the on-campus medical facility is not active, i.e. on holidays, Saturdays and Sundays, an on-call service (tel +39 0282248222) will always be available for the following time slots: from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm on weekdays (Mon-Fri), Saturday from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Sunday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, and from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm on holidays.

9) NO SMOKING POLICY

In all areas outside the campus (piazza Sraffa, via Roentgen, via Sarfatti, via Gobbi, via Bocconi) the smoking ban is enforced, although in few marked areas it is possible to smoke outside always respecting the interpersonal safety distance and avoiding gatherings. In fact, it should be remembered that the smokers' exhalations increase the risk of contagion in the event that somebody is positive to the virus.

10) BARS AND RESTAURANTS

With the aim of guaranteeing the continuity of the catering service for food and beverages, our restaurant suppliers have modulated their activity in compliance with social distancing and safeguarding of health by adopting all the prevention measures established by the relevant protocols, such as: sanitation of environments and tables after each use, management of separate flows for entry and exit, redefinition of spaces to allow consumption of meals in compliance with safe distancing. The Green pass is mandatory to access all indoor areas.

For any further information, please consult the FAQ page on our yoU@B Diary (Health & Safety section).

We are confident that, despite these constraints and the small sacrifices required to protect your health, we will be able to offer you the best possible experience on our beautiful Campus and welcome you in the best possible way.

We are counting on your attentive collaboration. Any behavior that does not respect the rules hereby indicated will be sanctioned.

Your safety matters!
