Information on disability for the Right to University Education
For the purposes of the Right to University Education, the University may consider the condition of disability ONLY for students who are in possession of an Italian certificate of disability recognition in compliance with the Italian laws governing the matter.
Specifically, the disability taken into consideration may consist of the condition of handicap recognized pursuant to Italian Law no. 104/1992 or civil disability recognized pursuant to Italian Law no. 102/2009 and only on condition that the level of disability is equal to or greater than 66%.
The competent body for issuing these certificates is the Italian Public Social Security Agency (hereinafter "INPS"). The health assessment, for the purposes of recognizing the disability, is carried out by a specific Italian medical committe at the Italian Local Health Authorities (hereinafter "ASL").
The medical committe of ASL is integrated by a doctor from the INPS, who expresses a definitive opinion on the medical assessment and issues, in the case of a positive opinion, the relevant disability certificate.
We inform you the following can request recognition of their handicap and/or civil disability from INPS:
- Italian citizens residing in Italy;
- EU foreign citizens legally residing in Italy and registered in the registry office of their municipality of residence;
- non-EU foreign citizens legally residing in Italy with a residence permit of at least one year (Article 41 of the Consolidated Law on Immigration).
In the absence of a valid certificate issued by INPS, the University will not be able to apply the benefits provided by Italian university law even in the event that the disability has been ascertained by the Medical Committee of the country of origin.
If you are in possession of a suitable certificate issued by INPS and if interested, as indicated above, you can apply for Tuition waiver for students with disabilities equal or greater than 66%.
