Student status - A.y. 2025-26

- Being updated -

The student, according to his situation, can be considered: resident student, commuting student and non-resident student.

The student status (resident, commuting, non-resident) is linked to the permanent legal address of the student, that is the registered location where the individual has her/his habitual abode (Article 43 (2) of the Italian Civil Code). The student status does not affect the possibility of accessing the scholarship but only the amount of the cash stipend of the scholarship, if awarded.

Please verify below the criteria to determine whether a student is considered resident, commuting or non-resident.

Important:

The travel times to be calculated are the minimum ones used, based on the journey by public transport, between the departure station/stop of the residence and the arrival one of the study location, also including waiting times between the intermediate stops.

Journeys on foot or by private transport are excluded.

These times can be checked on the regional website www. muoversi.regione.lombardia.it and, for cities located outside the Lombardy Region, through the Google Maps search tool www.google.it/maps.

Students residing in the Municipality of Milan or residing in the surrounding areas and who spend up to 60 minutes using public transport for the daily transfer from home to the course location;

Students residing in municipalities from which it is possible to reach the location of the course attended, with public transport, with times of journey between 60 and 90 minutes.

Students with official registered residence ABROAD or in a municipality in Italy more than 90 minutes away from the University (considering public transport travel times), will be assigned the status of "Non resident" only following domicile in the near the University and on the condition that the student signs a contract upon payment for a period of at least 10 months (appropriately documented within the established times and methods).

It is specified that the independent student is also considered “non resident” only if he/she uses an accommodation upon payment that must be documented in the Municipality where the attended course of study takes place.

Failure to submit the necessary documentation will result in being assigned the "commuting" status instead of the "non-resident" status.
