GPA and High School Curriculum
Third-last and second-last year transcripts of secondary school are a compulsory requirement for all applicants: graduating, already graduated, transfer students.
Bocconi evaluates your third-last and second-last year grades from your overall study progression. This means that if you changed schools or repeated a year, we will still count backwards from the year you will receive your diploma. For example, if you are graduating in the Summer of 2025, you will need to provide transcripts from the Summer of 2023 and the Summer of 2024, regardless of the educational system you followed or the class you were enrolled in.
Only final term grades of the third-last and second-last years will be considered for the selection process. Please note that “third-last year” refers to grade 10 out of 12 or grade 11 out of 13 (or Seconde Classe in the French system), and “second-last year” refers to grade 11 out of 12 or grade 12 out of 13 (or Première Classe in the French system).
Applicants awarded with a final secondary school diploma after only 11 years must upload as transcripts grade 10 (as third-last year) and grade 11 (as second-last year).
Only final term transcripts (i.e. second semester; third trimester) are required. Mid-year grades, last-year grades, predicted grades and University grades are NOT among the elements of evaluation and will NOT be considered.
Transcripts must be officially issued by the school and translated in English or Italian. A school translation with stamp and signature will be accepted. Transcripts in French, German and Spanish do not require a translation. Transcript in other languages MUST be translated and uploaded together with the original document in the online application.
If transcripts for the third-last or second-last year have not been released by the school for policy (as the school provides only grades at the end of the last year, as it is common in the British curricula), applicants can upload an official statement of the school confirming that a transcript is not available for that year.
Applicants in this situation will participate in the selection with the same GPA of the available transcript for both years and are invited to duplicate the GPA of the only available transcript in the application online.
Applicants who are NOT able to provide valid transcripts or documentation will enter the selection process with the minimum passing grade (6 out of 10 – Italian system).
Bocconi University does not set any specific requirement in terms of subjects or tracks taken by applicants during the secondary school.
This applies to all secondary school diplomas, regardless of recent curriculum changes (i.e. French Baccalaureate - Spécialité Mathématiques and IB Diploma - Mathematics: analysis and approaches or applications and interpretation SL/HL).
However, given the field of study to which Bocconi belongs to, students should consider that, if admitted, taking quantitative-based courses/modules during secondary school (math, physics, business studies, economics, etc) might help them, in transition more smoothly from secondary school to our BSc programs content.
For the GPA calculation in the Bocconi GPA calculator, include all subjects listed in your transcript from the final term. Exclude non-academic subjects such as PE/Sports, Military Training, Religion, Ethics, or Moral Education, as these are not considered for the selections.
If you have both internal grades and external exam grades (e.g., in the British system), prefer using official board exam results, such as (I)GCSEs, over internal school grades. Include only the relevant exam grades from the applicable year. For example, if you graduate in August 2025, only use exam grades from June 2023. Do not include exam results from other sessions.
Before starting the online application, candidates are strongly invited to check the compulsory validity requirements for all the secondary school diplomas.
In the online applications, candidates are requested to fill in the task “Diploma requirements" and the "Education" section. It is extremely important to submit complete and accurate information, that allows the Admissions Committee to evaluate candidates’ study path in the best way possible.
