Searching for the Right Match between Work and Passions
Thomas Le Barbanchon is a new Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Bocconi. It is a fresh new start for him after a post-doc position at CREST (Centre de Recherche en Economie et Statistique) Department of Economics. His Ph.D in Economics is from Ecole Polytechnique in France.
His research interests are mostly empirical (in labor economics and public finance) though he also likes formal economic and econometric models. Thomas is interested in how labor markets work (job search and matching, labor flows, discrimination) and how they are influenced by institutions (labor contracts, unemployment insurance). Some of his recent publications look at the two-tier labor markets in France and Spain in the great recession, at the evaluation of labor market policy in equilibrium, at the unintended effects of anonymous resumes and at the effects of the potential duration of unemployment benefits on unemployment exits to work and job matching in France. He expects to be working with Jérôme Adda and probably some other colleagues from the development, labor or political economy group. Thomas will most likely teach labor economics and applied econometrics.
In Milan, he looks forward to learning Italian, but culture is also something he finds fascinating and is eager to discover. The city has a location to die for being close to the mountains, lakes, and the sea. Weekend trips in the mountains, hiking in the lake district, and diving in the Mediterranean... Thomas has already planned it all.
