A Rocker in a Suit and Tie

, by Andrea Celauro
The third episode of Svolte takes us into the story of Lorenzo Albini, who from rock and philosophy decided to focus on commitment to the family business, honing his managerial skills at SDA Bocconi

First a soul and a rock group in which he played regularly, plus studies in philosophy, then the turning point with the desire to fully commit to the family business, as the third generation. The new episode of Svolte , the SDA Bocconi and Corriere della Sera project that tells the stories of individuals and companies that have changed their path thanks to investment in training, brings us into the story of Lorenzo Albini, managing director of Albini & Pitignani, a company in the shipping and transport sector.

"At first I had no intention of joining the company," says the manager. "I enrolled in philosophy and had other plans. Then, partly out of family habit (I have always breathed the air of the company), I joined it too and I liked the work more and more."

But how to make a rocker's way of thinking operational? "We don't have to ask ourselves how to change his mind," explains Giovanni Tomasi, Associate Professor of Practice in Management Control Systems, one of Albini's professors at the MBA of SDA Bocconi that Albini decided to attend to strengthen his skills. "Rather, we must ask ourselves how to exploit this rich resource to make the company even more competitive and effective."
