Pietro Sirena is the New President of SECOLA
Pietro Sirena, Full Professor of the Department of Law, is the new President of the Society for European Contract Law (SECOLA). He was elected during the latest annual conference of the Society, held in Zurich on 17 and 18 June 2022.
SECOLA, which is headquartered in Munich, was set up in 2001 and currently brings together more than 300 members, with the aim of promoting the development and knowledge of European contract law.
One of the main activities of the Society consists in managing the annual conference, aimed at discussing cutting-edge subjects that are at the forefront of both legal theory and the advancement of European contract law. The annual conference is co-organized every year with a leading education or research institution and hosted in a different European country. "The annual conference usually takes place in mid- to late-June. The next ones will be in Berlin in 2023 and London in 2024," says Prof. Sirena.
In 2005, SECOLA launched a journal, the European Review of Contract Law (ERCL) which deals with European contract law in a way that reflects the objectives of the Society.
The Society also edits the book series European Contract Law and Theory (EUCOLATH), published by Intersentia (Antwerp-Cambridge). These books combine dogmatic thinking in comparative and EU law with strong social theory considerations and make the results of the discussions of leading scholars and practitioners publicly available.
