New Data Science and Political Science Graduate Programs
Bocconi is bringing Big Data analysis and Political Science studies to graduate programs: the ten current Master of Science programs will be joined by two new programs held in English in the 2018-2019 academic year. The Master of Science in Data Science and Business Analytics will be headed by Gaia Rubera, while Paola Profeta will be the Director for the Master of Science in Politics and Policy Analysis. The two courses will be presented to Bocconi students on 7 September at 6pm in the Gobbi Aula Magna.
The ideal follow-up to the launch of the Bachelor of Science in International Politics and Government in 2015 and the Bachelor of Science in Economics Management and Computer Science in 2016, the addition of the two new programs "stems from the University's desire to enter and solidly command these important subject areas at a graduate level," explains the Dean of the Bocconi Graduate School, Antonella Carù. "The Graduate School is constantly updating and refining its educational offer with the goal of keeping up with an ever evolving market. The launch of two new programs represents a particularly challenging period for the School, aimed at taking on the challenges of today: on one hand, the pervasiveness of the internet and the tremendous amount of data it generates; on the other, deep-rooted geopolitical transformations and changes in socio-economic systems." These areas are also very significant in terms of job opportunities. "Bocconi can respond to these opportunities because it is able rely on the specialized expertise developed in these areas. This expertise can be integrated with more traditional areas in economics, management and finance, creating an original and advanced approach."
The new MSc in Data Science and Business Analytics combines modern statistical and mathematical techniques with the latest developments in computer science and the management skills typical of Bocconi. Specifically, students can specialize in two areas: data science, for prospective graduates interested in undertaking a career in theoretical statistics and developing new machine learning or artificial intelligence algorithms; business analytics is the major for students who would like to apply statistical and computational skills in the various company functions, such as finance, marketing, organization and operations.
Courses in the area of Political Science in the MSc in Politics and Policy Analysis are derived from Bocconi's expertise and commitment to research in the sector. They stand out due to theoretical aspects and data analysis and evaluations of decision-making processes and public policy. It is in part through advanced quantitative skills that students learn to understand the complexities of the political, economic and social dynamics of today's world, and how they can be managed by domestic and international institutions.
