A New Assistant Professor for the Department of Economics Straight From London

With the new academic year, the Department of Economics has been enriched by a new member, Joseph-Simon Görlach, straight from the UK. The Assistant Professor has been, for the past six years, a researcher at the Centre for Research and Analysis of Migration in London, while working on his Ph.D at University College London (UCL). "Among the prime reasons I chose Bocconi are its research groups working on labor and development economics", he explains, "Also, coming from the UK's flat landscape, I am quite looking forward to having the Alps within reach".

"Prior to that, I obtained a degree in International Economics with a focus on the Middle East at Univesity of Tübingen, Germany", says the German academic. That focus led him to spend periods abroad for language courses and internships, including Damascus, Tel Aviv, Doha and Cairo.

Görlach's academic interests have over time shifted to the issue of international migration. "I have primarily been working on dynamic models of international migration", he explains, "Besides this, my interests extend to labor economics and demographics more broadly"
