Matteo Di Castelnuovo New AIEE President
Matteo Di Castelnuovo (SDA Bocconi School of Management) has been appointed President of the Italian Association of Energy Economists (AIEE) for the two-year period 2023-2025. The Board of Directors, which was completely renewed at the 22 June membership meeting, includes 10 additional directors.
"The issues at the center of the energy economics debate, and at the center of the attention of many citizens," says Di Castelnuovo, "are the energy transition, hence decarbonization both on the supply side (e.g., renewable sources) and on the demand side of energy (e.g., heavy industry and transport), but also security of supply, technological innovation, new market arrangements and the competitiveness of the European energy system, starting with the supply of critical materials."
Di Castelnuovo plans to move along four lines, according to operational arrangements yet to be agreed with the Board. First, he proposes to increase the involvement of Italian universities in the association's initiatives, starting with the mapping of research and teaching in energy economics. He intends, then, to encourage access to associative life for young people interested in starting a scientific or professional career in these topics. The third point is the further strengthening of relations with the international scientific community. "Finally," the newly appointed President concludes, "I would like our economists to be able to participate more and more actively in the debate on Italian and European energy and climate policies."
Founded in 1989, AIEE is "a non-profit professional organization, the Italian affiliate of the International Association for Energy Economics – IAEE, an interdisciplinary forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences among energy experts," the website states. "It acts as an independent consulting organization providing a broad contribution in the field of energy economics, policymaking and economic theory. It also provides a means of professional communication and exchange to the Italian institutions in supporting them through meetings and joint initiatives."
