Legal Support for Ukrainian Refugees: UASI is born at Bocconi

, by Andrea Celauro
The legal unit, made up of Bocconi students, PhD students, faculty and alumni, will provide assistance for individuals, NGOs and institutions that are facing the consequences of the war

Now there is a Legal Support Unit to give help to Ukrainian refugees and support Italian NGOs and institutions that are facing the emergency It is called Ukraine Support and Information (UASI), the newly born unit within the Bocconi Lab in European Studies (BLEST) on the initiative of Bocconi professors, students and alumni and supported by Fondazione Romeo ed Enrica Invernizzi.

From the early stages of the conflict, Eleanor Spaventa, full professor of European Union law, immediately involved various components of the Bocconi community: "UASI represents a concrete effort by the Bocconi community to help those who come to Italy fleeing the Ukrainian conflict. A team of volunteers made up of professors, students, graduate students and alumni is at the service of the whole community to provide information and legal support and thus facilitate the integration into Italian society of those affected by the war."

UASI will produce useful materials for those fleeing the conflict and arriving in Italy, such as brief digital guides in three languages (Italian, Ukrainian and Russian) to help individuals and administrations to orient themselves in the complex administrative and legal labyrinth. In addition, it will offer support to organizations and administrations: on the model of legal clinics, Bocconi students will do a legal desk together with Lawyers for Ukraine, while the Unit will provide legal advice to organizations and institutional actors.
