Working in public administration, for a manager, can be difficult, but it's exceptionally rewarding if you love being part of a community and always being in touch with people, Giuseppe Sala, Mayor of Milan, Bocconi Alumnus and former Professor, in the 14th installment of the Executive Chats series, in which Bocconi Rector Gianmario Verona meets top executives in the frontline in facing the challenges of the digital century. The video is shot with the exceptional background of Palazzo Marino, Milan's Municipality building.

Quoting the former Mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg, Mr. Sala says that this is the century of the cities, because in large, international cities new forms of social life are developing.

When Rector Verona compares Milan to Boston, as cities with a similar size and a similar share of university students on population (ca. 250,000 on 1.3mln in the case of Milan), Mr. Sala comments that living in Milan, for an international student, must be easy, thanks to a public transportation network that allows you not to have a car, and pleasurable. «But we have to do better regards affordable housing», he concedes.

Even if messages coming from politicians in Italy and in the rest of the world can be confusing, Mr. Sala advises young people to follow politicians with a proven ability to transform society, be it digital, environmental or social transformation.
