Current Issues in Accounting Research: The 2011 RAST Conference at Bocconi
The quality of the accounting information is the core issue of accounting studies and will be the main theme of the Review of Accounting Studies (RAST) Annual Conference, hosted by Università Bocconi's Department of Accounting, with the primary sponsorship of Ernst & Young, on 18th and 19th of November.
"As the information provided by corporations to capital markets and other stakeholders contributed to the financial crisis, studying the quality of accounting information becomes of prime importance nowadays", says Sasson Bar-Yosef, full professor at Bocconi and the conference local organizer. "When investors realize that the information provided is deceptive, the impact on the market prices may be disruptive".
"The accounting profession is changing rapidly", Christian Mouillon, Ernst & Young Global Vice Chairman – Assurance, says, "and the expectations from investors and regulators for financial reports to be more transparent and relevant are high. This conference is a timely opportunity therefore to learn about new, thought-provoking proposals and discuss different perspectives on accounting from around the world. International accounting research, particularly in the current economic climate, is very important and makes a key contribution to the profession and stability of the financial markets".
Hosting the RAST Conference puts Università Bocconi at the very center of European accounting studies. The RAST Conference is one of the most selective and prestigious events for the international community of accounting scholars. The six papers which are going to be presented in Milan, and published by the Review, are the result of a selection out of 125 papers and will be discussed by one-hundred highly rated specialists from all over the world.
