Bocconi4BookCity: The University at the Milanese Festival of Books and Readers

, by Susanna Della Vedova
Walls and bridges; cooperation and development in Africa, looks and stories. Nobel, migration, work and new slavery. Reading, light and darkness. These are the BookCity 2019 events on campus

There will be two days full of events, debates and discussions on Thursday and Friday 14-15 November at Bocconi during the BookCity 2019 week. A full schedule designed to satisfy the curiosity of participants and offer experiences, knowledge and debates on topical issues, creating brand-new experiences.
It starts with "Corporate Memory, Quality of Economic Outturn, Enabling City" (Thursday 14 November at 2:30pm, Room N28, Piazza Sraffa 13), an opportunity for reflection and debate on the dynamic relationship between culture and business value.
Culture will also be discussed during the event organized by Treccani and Bocconi University, "Culture: Driving Force of Evolution" (Friday 15 November at 3pm, Egea Bookshop; registration required). It will feature a reading of the cultural development of the last 60,000 years, through the lens of the Darwinian theory of evolution.
For those who want a unique experience, there is "Reading in the Dark" (Thursday 14 November at 1pm, OpenSide, Via Roentgen; registration required) and "Reading al Buio" (Friday 15 November at 1pm, OpenSide, Via Roentgen; registration required). This format, created by the LIA Foundation, makes it possible to approach the subject of content accessibility, experimenting with different reading methods through eyes, hands and ears.
There will be many guests and many Egea authors who, starting from the content of their last published books, accompany guests in interpreting current realities. The Berlin Wall will be discussed at "30 Years of Walls and Bridges" (Thursday 14 November at 6:30pm, Egea Bookshop; registration required), as well as the role of the media, politics and what today would be like if the wall had not come down. The event has been organized by Bocconi University, Egea and the student associations BFood, BSMA and Bocconi Students Historical Society.
But there will also be space for poetry during the event organized by Bocconi University and the Bocconi d'Inchiostro literary association, "Rereading Alda Merini" (Thursday 14 November at 5pm, Egea Bookshop), and for "Rights, Employment, Migration and Modern Slavery" (Friday 15 November at 12:00pm, Room N39, Piazza Sraffa 13; registration required), an event organized by Bocconi University and the Students for Humanity Student Association.
"We read to remember, to get excited, to understand, to contextualize ideas, facts and points of view. We read to be able to question ourselves. The Bocconi4BookCity 2019 program allows us to read and reflect with all our senses and dialogue with the overall BookCity event," explains Paola Dubini, coordinator for Bocconi and head of scheduling for Milanese universities.
Bocconi4BookCity will also feature a Nobel laureate (Friday 15 November at 10am, Roentgen Aula Magna; registration required), Svetlana Alexievich, at "Narrating Catastrophe and the Catastrophe of Narration." The difficulty of describing evil, a difficulty fought over the years will be discussed. The Nobel laureate is a guest of the 11th Science for Peace World Conference, organized along with Bocconi University.
"Non-Stop Stories from Africa" (Friday 15 November at 6:00pm, Egea Bookshop; registration required), will conclude this 2019 edition. The debate will feature reportage stories addressing the issues of sustainable development, interventions and investments. The event has been organized by Bocconi University, Egea, SDA Bocconi AfricaLab, LEAP and the Students for Humanity Student Association.
The last part of the program is an exhibit in the Piazza Sraffa 13 building: "Photography Exhibition. It's Spelled Wasa, It's Pronounced Casa," looking at the experiences of the young volunteers involved in the Working For Wasa project in Africa, with faces and stories to narrate a new perspective on Africa and the world of international volunteering. Bocconi University and the Students for Humanity Student Association have organized the event.
