The Vice President of Bocconi has been appointed to lead the Italian Association for Cancer Research

Andrea Sironi, Vice President of Bocconi, is the new president of the AIRC Foundation, whose objectives are to support innovative scientific projects for the fight against cancer through fundraising, the dissemination of scientific information and the promotion of a culture of prevention.

"I firmly believe in the crucial role that AIRC plays not only in the scientific field, but more generally for the progress of the country," says Sironi. "It is a great honor for me to assume the office of president of such an important foundation, which has been committed for over fifty years to supporting cancer research in our country, bringing young scientific talents back to Italy and more generally promoting the progress of scientific knowledge ". As president of AIRC, Sironi takes over from Pier Giuseppe Torrani, who has led the Foundation since 2014. "I accepted this position", he continues, "because I believe that a foundation like AIRC, with its commitment to supporting research and young researchers, does important service to our nation. Italy is rich in gifted young individuals, many of whom are forced to carry out their activities in other countries, attracted by more remunerative conditions and favorable career opportunities. "

Andrea Sironi, Professor of Economics of Financial Intermediaries, was Rector of Bocconi from 2012 to 2016. From January 2016 he was Chairman of Borsa Italiana and until December 2020 he was a member of the Board of Directors of the London Stock Exchange Group. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Intesa Sanpaolo group. He has been an independent director of major listed industrial and financial companies and a consultant to leading national and international financial institutions.
