Also the Bocconi Faculty Is Learning Inclusion
Considering that diversity is a fact, but inclusion is a daily practice, BUILT – Bocconi University Innovations in Learning and Teaching – is about to launch a new training program on inclusion designed for the university faculty, in the sense "of all those who carry out classroom activities, in any form," as Camilla Gasbarro of the BUILT center for e-learning explains. The official launch of the "Diversity and Inclusion in Teaching" course on Blackboard is scheduled for 28 November, not long after after the Bocconi Inclusion Week.
The objective of the interactive online module which lasts about an hour is eminently practical: to raise awareness on issues of inclusion through real-life examples and operational solutions class instructors may have to deal with, as well as a selection of contacts to be recommended to students who need to find solutions to particular problems, useful resources, and guidelines for organizing exams. The module includes an overview of the topics of diversity and inclusion in teaching and verticals on student wellbeing, mental health, multiculturalism, gender disparities, and support for special needs. "All the contents are the result of a reflection that starts from the voice of the students and has been validated by the Dean of Diversity, Inclusion and Sustainability, Paola Profeta," Camilla adds.
"The Diversity and Inclusion in Teaching program was born out of the desire to make the Bocconi faculty better aware of the various dimensions of diversity," concludes the Director of BUILT, Leonardo Caporarello. "We want to do this with concrete actions through the course, by providing good inclusive teaching practices that enable professors to impart a kind of teaching in the classroom that respects the heterogeneity and complexity of our students."
