30,000 Employees to Be Fused Into One Organization

, by Andrea Celauro
After the acquisitions in the 2010s, Prysmian Group turned to SDA Bocconi to understand how to best manage the human capital of an enlarged company. Here is the story of their breakthrough

In the fifth episode of the Svolte series by SDA Bocconi School of Management and Corriere della Sera daily newspaper, through the voice of Fabrizio Rutschmann, Prysmian Group's chief HR officer, the story of the international company producing cables and systems for energy and telecommunications is told. Through major acquisitions in 2011 and 2018, Prysmian gathered global attention and is now a major company with 30,000 employees worldwide.

But bringing together the human capital of different companies is not at all easy. "The greatest of all challenges", explains Fabrizio Rutschmann, "is to make people come on board, by dispelling the thought that those who have been acquired are destined to be excluded. You need to build people's trust".

To do this, Prysmian turned to SDA Bocconi, which then developed a specific program, an Academy: "Prysmian was not looking for professors who would teach", says Markus Venzin, full professor of corporate entrepreneurship, "but a real sparring partner who understood the situation and would develop an ad hoc program. Today the course receives 40,000 applications for the 40 places that are available each year".
