Numerical Limits
How many interns can be hosted at the same time?
Limits on the number of interns that can be hosted at the same time by a company is regulated by national and regional regulations.
In Italy, the number varies based on the size of the company and is defined by individual regional regulations. In the indications listed in the Italian State and Regions’ Guidelines Regarding Internships the limits are:
- between 0 and 5 employees: 1 intern;
- between 6 and 19 employees: 2 interns;
- more than 20 employees: number of interns cannot exceed 10% of employees.
For internships out of Italy, we suggest to assign a supervisor to as many interns as he/she can follow in order to develop a quality on the job learning experience. Taking the Italian law as an example, the ideal proportion is: no more than 3 internships for each supervisor.
